INDUSTRY ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING SUMMARIES

Industry Advisory Council (IAC) meetings bring together key representatives to discuss and collaborate on issues effecting the equine sector with a strong focus on biosecurity. These meetings provide a forum for industry leaders and experts to share information, discuss emerging risks and provide strategic input about policies and programs. These meetings are held twice yearly and members and guests are invited to join.

IAC Meeting 5th October 2025 - SURRA DISEASE

The AHIC Industry Advisory Council (IAC) convened on October 5th to address the growing threat of SURRA disease to Australia. The session featured insightful presentations from key experts, including Daniel Leslie, a Balinese horse owner who shared his personal experience of losing several horses to SURRA. Dr. James Gilkerson provided valuable information on the transmission of the disease and its potential risk to Australia, while Samantha Allan, Head of Animal Health Australia, discussed the organization's vital role in strengthening biosecurity preparedness.
